"Empires fall. Republics are born and die. Jedi and Sith disappear and return. The flames of history are unsparing and consistent."
―Reyna Oskure[1]

Reyna Oskure was an Anzati female mystic who was a high-ranking member of the dark side cult known as the Acolytes of the Beyond. Following the Galactic Empire defeat to the Alliance to Restore the Republic at the Battle of Endor in 4 ABY, Oskure was contacted by Grand Moff Ubrik Adelhard of the Anoat sector, who had established his own breakaway faction in the sector. On the planet Devaron, Oskure met with the cleric Yupe Tashu, who instructed her to visit Adelhard.

Aboard Adelhard's Star Destroyer, the Scepter, Oskure acted as his counselor for the survival of the Empire against the nascent New Republic, intending to offer him the power of the Force. Oskure later claimed to be an Inquisitor and dueled the Jedi Luke Skywalker, who declared her a pretender of the Sith, though she was defeated by the Jedi and taken prisoner by the New Republic, but later resurfaced to stand alongside Adelhard once more.

Biography[]

Schemes in the dark[]

"Reyna Oskure. Prompt as ever. The Acolytes of the Beyond always hold you in high regard."
"As you should, my friend. These are trying times for the Empire. Or its scattered remains."
―Yupe Tashu and Reyna Oskure[1]

The Anzati female Reyna Oskure, a member of a long-lived species, operated during the reign of the Galactic Empire. She[1] was a high-ranking member of the Acolytes of the Beyond,[3] a dark side cult,[5] and was held in high regard by the Acolytes, including the cleric Yupe Tashu. At some point, she also became known by Grand Moff Ubrik Adelhard, Imperial governor of the Outer Rim's Anoat sector.[1]

In 4 ABY,[6] the Rebel Alliance victory at the Battle of Endor saw the deaths of Emperor Palpatine and Imperial enforcer Darth Vader. The Empire became fragmented, while the rebels sought to establish the New Republic. In the hours after the battle, Oskure was contacted by Adelhard, who—seeking to retain control over his sector and the galaxy—saw the Anzati as a solution. Oskure was summoned by Tashu to[1] the planet[3] Devaron, where the Acolytes of the Beyond were gathered. She greeted Tashu, commenting on the Empire's position. When Tashu began to speak of[1] his[7] belief regarding the Force and the flow of power, Oskure hurried him to his point. Tashu expressed the need for the Acolytes to return balance to the galaxy and defeat the nascent Republic, and Oskure recognized her role. The Anzati informed him that Adelhard wished to meet, and Tashu, who had plans involving the defiant Imperial, instructed her to visit him and give him the dark side's embrace. As Oskure departed, she warned Tashu to be careful of what he wished for.[1]

Oskure once again conferred with Tashu on Devaron regarding the Jedi Luke Skywalker's visit to Pillio. The Anzati questioned why Skywalker was drawn so strongly to Pillio, and Tashu answered the Force, expressing his belief that an ancient Jedi relic would be found at Palpatine's Observatory there. Tashu instructed Oskure to continue her efforts with Adelhard, sending the Acolyte Yuan Howzell and her group to Pillio, although Howzell was unsuccessful in claiming the artifact.[3] Oskure made her way to the Scepter, Adelhard's Imperial Star Destroyer in the Anoat sector,[5] where she served as his counselor, providing guidance in the Empire survival,[8] and influencing him as he entered into conflict with the New Republic.[9]

Serving Adelhard[]

After a skirmish between Adelhard's allies, the Spice Runners of Kijimi, and a team of New Republic operatives—Therisa Alern, Kes Dameron, Jarek Yeager, and Rynn Zenat—the Scepter traveled to the site of the battle, where Adelhard analyzed the wreckage of the Spice Runner starships. Oskure approached, asserting that the New Republic operatives had survived; when Adelhard addressed her as a witch, the Anzati threatened to remove his tongue.[5]

The governor reminded her she was aboard his vessel, but Oskure merely noted that Adelhard's strategies would only be so effective. Adelhard questioned her meaning, and Oskure explained that he needed the Force, claiming that the Acolytes could guide him. After Oskure was dismissed by the skeptical Adelhard, who desired results rather than mysticism, she warned him that his dismissal made his true thoughts obvious, but she was interrupted by Lieutenant Kith Alaytia informing Adelhard that the operatives had been found.[5]

Power of the Force[]

"You're not a Sith. Just a pretender. Reveal yourself."
"Oh, Jedi…how little you truly know…how little you understand—about me, about the Acolytes…about yourself."
―Luke Skywalker and Reyna Oskure[8]

Oskure later dressed in the guise of an Inquisitor, wielding a Inquisitor's Lightsaber, though it is unknown whether or not her claim to be an inquisitor had any truth to it.[8] She intervened alongside Commander Bragh as the New Republic prisoners attempted to escape, having been freed by Kith Alaytia. Oskure claimed the rebels had made a grave mistake, slashing Alern with her blade. After the prisoners were incapacitated, Bragh thanked her, intending to take them to Adelhard, but Oskure told him otherwise, wishing for the governor to see the true power of the Force and the Dark Side.[5]

As Oskure prepared to execute the prisoners, Skywalker, having boarded the Scepter, arrived to defend them. The Anzati moved to duel Skywalker, but Skywalker, openly fighting for the New Republic, was swiftly overpowered and disarmed by the Jedi. As Skywalker prepared to uncover Oskure's identity, he was warned by Zenat about Bragh, though the commander was shot by Preeti, another captured operatives who had been freed by Alaytia. While the New Republic operatives held off the approaching stormtroopers, Skywalker, recognizing Oskure was no Sith but only a pretender, ordered her to reveal herself. As she lowered her hood, Oskure claimed that Skywalker knew little. Skywalker recognized Oskure and her role, but the Acolyte claimed he was too late, asserting that not even he could stop Adelhard from rebuilding the Empire. The operatives took both Oskure and Bragh prisoner, while Skywalker intended to face the governor. Oskure was unafraid, claiming that she had foretold the events, which would be the precursor to Adelhard's greatest victory. The operatives were ambushed by stormtroopers, giving Bragh and Oskure a chance to escape captivity. The Jedi and the New Republic operatives managed to escape the Scepter after the arrival of reinforcements led by Lando Calrissian, although Adelhard, surviving his confrontation with Skywalker, decided that he must embrace the darkness.[8]

Advising and companionship[]

Oskure would later resurface within the ranks of the forces that had mustered behind Ubrik Adelhard,[10] who she would continued to advise in matters concerning the Force and its adherents as an envoy from the Acolytes of the Beyond, speaking with Arch-Mage Yuan Howzell to discuss a partnership with the Imperial remnant that would put the Sith cult at the disposal of Adelhard and expressing high regard for Yupe Tashu when in the governor's earshot. At some point, Oskure also acquired a stormtrooper contact that was stationed on the planet Malastare, where Grand General Kenner Loring and his own rogue holdout had entrenched themselves after the events at Endor, which she made known to Adelhard, who sought to bring the general's holdings into his new empire.[11] Having resumed her presence on the Scepter, Oskure would ultimately begin sharing a bed with the Grand Moff on several occasions,[2] although the man rebuffed the advancements that she made when in the presence of his subordinates.[10]

While the Imperial holdouts from the Anoat sector engaged in a battle with forces from the New Republic, Reyna Oskure was on the bridge of the Scepter when the Moff was introduced to Pessin, who claimed to possess knowledge that incriminated a traitor located within their midst. Pessin was prevent from expanding on his explanations by Kith Alaytia, who harshly interrupted the captured pilot, incapacitating him with a violent blow that impressed Oskure and prompted her to comment that she would not have expected such actions from the lieutenant. Watching with one hand resting on her hip, as the ISB agent began to drag the unconscious prisoner from the bridge, the mystic marvelled at the burning emotions that she could detected coming from Alaytia, noting that their intensity made her almost suspect the other woman felt that her life hung in the balance, although she received no response. Moving forward to where Adelhard and Bragh stood, when the former queried over her presence, the Anzati claimed that she had come to see the governor, reiterating this statement by pulling his face closer to kiss him, though Ubrik rebuffed these advances and pulled away. Inquiring over this, Oskure wondered if Adelhard fear the temptation of something he did not comprehend, but he denied this, claiming her display of affection was inappropriate for the current settings. When he went on to state that, as a soldier, he was obligated to consider how best to utilize the dark side of the Force that the Acolytes of the Beyond claimed to understand as a means to achieve their shared goals, Reyna remained unphased, musing that despite his previous claims towards embracing the darkness, Adelhard remained judicious about expressing such opinions outside the boundaries of their "private circle".[10]

Mutiny on the Scepter[]

"To your credit, my love, you were not supposed to last this long. So at least you have that to be proud of. But the Empire's plans lead to only one place, and they don't include you."
―Reyna telling Adelhard his usefulness is at an end[4]

Despite her apparent loyalty to Adelhard, Oskure was actually a spy for the Shadow Council led by Gallius Rax. While Rax initially grudgingly tolerated Adelhard, reasoning that he was distracting the New Republic from the Council's endgame, he eventually came to resent Adelhard for hoarding manpower and resources that could be used for the Contingency. As the Council's plans for Jakku neared their final stages, Adelhard had outlived his usefulness to the conspiracy.[12] Oskure is contacted via Holonet by Grand Moff Randd, who orders her to eliminate Adelhard.[2] Oskure briefly considers assassinating Adelhard, but ultimately decides to mutiny against him, assisted by Kith Alaytia and Kranor. After telling Adelhard that the Council never considered him anything more than an annoyance, Oskure has Kranor place Adelhard, Bragh, and stormtroopers still loyal to them in a sabotaged escape pod, which crashed on a nearby planet. Oskure then contacted a New Republic task force led by Skywalker and Calrissian, telling them that she was now in command of the Scepter and that she was ending the Iron Blockade.[4]

Betrayer betrayed[]

"Don't act surprised, Reyna Oskure."
"Ubrik! You're alive!"
"Your words sound almost genuine, my dear.
"
"'m relieved, but how —"
―Reyna Oskure and Ubrik Adelhard, after his return to the Scepter[13]

Having seized command of the Scepter,[4] Reyna Oskure was swift to expose Kith Alaytia as a double agent for the New Republic that she had arrested, having Kranor hold the lieutenant in binders while she notified Gallius Rax to the changes over holographic communications. Although Rax made it clear that he expected her support during the impending stand that the Empire was intending to make on Jakku, Oskure observed that the trust the Imperial leader placed in her was dubious and quired about what further proof was needed to verify her allegiance, noting the capture of Alaytia and propertied demise of Ubrik Adelhard as confirmation of her devotion to the Empire. Arms crossed as she made this statement, Oskure grinned to Rax as she assured him that her own work spoke for itself, but the Chancellor of the Empire retorted that neither of them had time to worry about amateurs such as the Grand Moff and warned the Anzati mystic to ensure that she emerged on the right side of history. Unbeknownst to Reyna Oskure, however, her lover was both alive and in communication with loyalists inside the Imperial fleet, including Lieutenant Craithmore, who dispatched a Lambda-class shuttle to retrieve Adelhard, Bragh and their contingent of stormtroopers from the planet Gallowyss.[13]

Meanwhile, a motley coalition of ships that were under the control of other Imperial personnel faithful to Adelhard, the Spice Runners of Kijimi and even members of the Acolytes of the Beyond engaged in battle with the starfighters under Lando Calrissian, which surprised Oskure when Kranor notified her to the renewed fighting. Confused to hear that their own starships were involved with the conflict, when the Trandoshan expanded to inform her about how the Acolytes were also providing contribution to the coalition, Oskure was suddenly confronted with the arrival of Ubrik Adelhard and his men, the former noting that the Anzati, as a traitor herself, should certainly recognise the sense of being betrayed by her fellow cultists. Exclaiming to the sight of her lover alive with what the Moff observed sounded like almost genuine emotion, his usurper claimed to be relieved and sought an explanation about his survival, but was held at blasterpoint by Kranor, who explained that the Spice Runners were not so easily deceived as Oskure thought.[13] The mystic was subsequently taken into custody and escorted from the bridge by Kranor, though not before she denounced Adelhard as a fool for thinking that he had been somehow chosen, insisting that those that remained with the Galactic Empire would neither support nor follow him, but only see him as a pawn.[14]

Personality and traits[]

"Be careful what you and your followers pray for, Yupe Tashu. It might just happen…"
―Reyna Oskure[1]

A mysterious individual[9] of a species whose longer lives allowed them to witness much, Reyna Oskure believed that history was unsparing and that regimes would inevitably fall.[1] As a member of the Acolytes of the Beyond, Oskure wished to show Adelhard the power of the dark side of the Force,[5] a power that she could offer him.[8] Oskure believed that weapons and starships were not all that Adelhard needed and that the Force could guide the governor to greatness, as it had guided Vader and Palpatine.[5] She claimed that Adelhard's reconstruction of the Empire would fill the void of power that Vader and Palpatine had left, believing nothing could stop his plans.[8]

Oskure asserted that the Acolytes were right to hold her in high regard,[1] also noting that her reputation preceded her upon being recognized by Skywalker.[8] She was unafraid to threaten Adelhard despite serving him aboard his vessel.[5] When Skywalker prepared to confront Adelhard, Oskure was unconcerned, believing the Jedi to be a fool approaching his own doom.[8] Oskure addressed Yupe Tashu as a friend, though had limited patience for his cryptic speech.[1] She herself, however, was similarly criticized by Adelhard for not speaking plainly.[5] The Anzati possessed white hair, blue eyes, and pale skin.[1]

Skills and abilities[]

"You sense something, witch?"
"Always, governor, always—"
―Ubrik Adelhard and Reyna Oskure[5]

Oskure claimed to be able to sense details and foretell events, asserting that she had predicted Skywalker's confrontation with Adelhard aboard his Star Destroyer. When Oskure attempted to use a lightsaber in combat against Skywalker, she was quickly defeated by the Jedi, who noted that holding a lightsaber was easier than wielding it.[8]

Equipment[]

"It's easy to hold a lightsaber. To wave it around. But it's—much harder—to actually wield it."
―Luke Skywalker, disarming Reyna Oskure[8]

When meeting with Tashu on Devaron, Oskure wore a black dress.[1] Claiming to be an Inquisitor, Oskure donned a black and gray outfit that featured a cloak, wielding a red-bladed Inquisitor lightsaber.[8]

Behind the scenes[]

Reyna Oskure first appeared in the first issue of the Star Wars: Battle of Jakku — Insurgency Rising comic series, written by Alex Segura, illustrated by Leonard Kirk, and published by Marvel Comics[1] on October 2, 2024. She was first mentioned in the reveal for the series on Marvel's website on July 22 of that year, though her surname was spelled "Oskur."[9]
